Last week we booked the 'trip of a lifetime', a small-ship cruise in Alaska: Glacier Bay National Park & other incredible sights along the Marine Highway Inside Passage. We embark July 6th, and after the cruise we'll
do some exploring on our own -- probably take the ferry to Prince
William Sound and Kenai Fjords, then the
train through Denali NP & up to Fairbanks, then 'home' [wherever we
leave the truck & trailer while we're gone].
Early July is
reportedly the very best time of year, the best possible weather, and
the most promise of Orca & Humpback whales, porpoise, puffins, sea
lions, etc. While on the ship we'll be doing frequent junkets/excursions; they provide all the equipment and the guides, including naturalists & marine biologists. We'll be kayaking and touring in our personal kayaks or
inflatable skiffs so we can get up-close-and-personal with the scenery
& critters!
We've dreamed of going to Alaska for years, and we're going to see the Best of the Best on this trip. Taking a small ship rather than a large cruise ship means that we'll travel in fjords and right up to the glaciers -- it promises to be amazing!
