Whitney MoonSet

This is the view from our camp of the full 'Worm Moon' setting over the mountains this morning!  It was pretty spectacular.  Look for more posts from this incredible area soon -- we've been spending our days exploring & hiking and I'm taking a lot of pictures . . . .

Gypsy Update

I apologize for not keeping up with blogs re: where the heck we are!  However, since we're having SO much fun I just hate spending time on the web.  My posts take quite a bit of time; I sort through myriads of photos, take the best/most representative into PhotoShop and do any needed editing + optimize them for the web (so they're not huge images sucking up all that bandwidth!), size them, then do the posts in both FaceBook and here on my Blog for those folks who don't do social media.

We left Arizona the other day and traveled to the Eastern Sierra, along Hwy 395 in California.  We're parked at a BLM campground at the base of Mt. Whitney and near the spectacular boulder formations of the Alabama Hills, location of many western movie filming.  It's pretty incredible here; we'll stay at least a week or more.

I took pictures of Mt.Whitney yesterday, along with a few of the Alabama Hills and wildflowers in bloom.  This morning we grabbed a quick cup of cappuccino and headed out to [hopefully] catch the sunrise splashing the mountains with brilliant color.  We were just a bit late so tomorrow we'll jump in the truck about 30 minutes earlier.  I'm also hoping to get some shots of the full moon setting over the mountains -- wish me luck!

1 more watercolor on YUPO

This is another watercolor on YUPO that I painted for my granddaughter Sydney's 24th birthday.  She's living on Maui Hawaii and has made 'friends' with the local whales.  This is a humpback cow & calf -- the reference photos were from several web sources.  I'm waiting for Sydney to give this little piece a title . . .

New Paintings: all watercolor on YUPO

Gee, I haven't posted anything for a while -- guess I'd better catch up.

I was challenged to the Facebook '5 paintings in 5 days', which only requires the artist to post 5 paintings they've done.  Since I hadn't been painting much lately, I accepted the challenge but with the twist of completing 5 NEW paintings over a 5-day period, and do them on YUPO. This is a polypropylene surface and quite a challenge in itself -- reacts something like oil on water, only in reverse.  So watercolor on YUPO is fun, unpredictable, and gives that desired 'juicy' result.  I really enjoy working this way as I tend to get a little tight with my work, especially when I haven't been painting regularly.
