Some pics from our Sockeye fishing expedition
on the Kenai River a couple weeks ago:
1) Jamie & Me with part of
our catch; we got 6 of these beauties - our limit!
2) The locals call
this 'Combat Fishing', people lining the
shore, just a few feet apart.
3) The guide boats that joined our group.
4) Our
guide Kacey, cleaning & filleting our catch.
5) Cooler packed with
our flash-frozen, vacuum-packed catch shipped to us FedEx overnight. We
bought some halibut & scallops to completely fill the cooler.
6) Oh
Ye of Little Faith: managed to get it all (minus the 3 pounds we're
grilling tonight) in our tiny little RV frig freezer.
The Sockeye had just begun their spawning journey up the Kenai, and we were just a few miles from the ocean at Kacey's favorite spot. We got there at 4:00 a.m. -- the early bird does get the worm! We dropped our catch off at Custom Seafood & were back at our hotel by 8:30. Now we can look forward to some incredible wild-caught and fresh-flash-frozen fish for the next couple months -- 20# of Sockeye fillets that we caught + several meals of halibut & scallops! PARTY ON!
