MICHIGAN #1

Today we traveled 150 miles north from Shipshewana Indiana to the Pioneer County Park near Muskegon Michigan. Rather rustic campground, but it will do for for 5 nights. It's lightly populated now, but all 235 sites are reserved for the weekend! The best thing about this park is that it is on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Indiana storm

A huge storm narrowly missed us this evening. Tornado watch with large hail potential, but all we got was one heckuva heavy rain storm. The storm passed, the sun came out, and we were treated to some amazing clouds.

Indiana #3

Today we moved 100 miles north from Ouabache State Park to the Shipshewana Campground South Park. This is Amish country; it's quite interesting to see Horse & Buggy rigs trotting down the highway!
Tomorrow we tour the Grand Design RV factory - we need to replace our old 5th wheel and Grand Design is most likely what we will buy, so it'll be good to see their construction.

My old friend & coworker Cindy Hedges and her hubby Dick now live on his family farm near the state park where we stayed. We were able to spend time together and had some good visits.

Indiana #2

Today we moved from Rising Sun north to Ouabache State Park, south of Fort Wayne Indiana. We pan to be here a week.

Rising Sun Indiana #10

This beautiful home is on Front Street. I do not know the story here, but it sure looks like it should be a B n B.

Rising Sun Indiana #9

Businesses old & new along Front Street. Yes, the run float planes on the Ohio River.

Rising Sun Indiana #8

These are original fixtures along the Front Street walkway. I don't think the clock still works, but the drinking fountain does!

Rising Sun Indiana #7

The famous Empire House, lodging & fine dining, and the log cabin next door. Both date back to the 1800s.

Rising Sun Indiana #6

There is a very nice monument honoring military members from the area, with special honors for those who died in service to their country.

Rising Sun Indiana #5

This town was a major shipping center on the Ohio River, and there was a lot of industry here. Front Street now has some remaining businesses and a delightful River Walk. They have invested heavily in preserving and sharing the history of the town.

The walkway has bits of history embedded in it; these were donated by local businesses and individuals, as were most of the features along the walk.

This is the Casino's steam boat parked right behind the casino. The Casino now owns and operates a ferry which crosses back and forth across the river every 15 minutes, except in winter or other unfavorable conditions.

Rising Sun Indiana #4

Even the modest homes are special.

Rising Sun Indiana #3

Another beauty on a huge corner lot on High Street.

Rising Sun Indiana #2

This home on High Street, which is a couple small hills up from the river has a magnificent 'room with a view'. I expect they can see the Ohio River and the Kentucky shore.

Rising Sun Indiana #1

This lovely little town on the banks of the Ohio has some spectacular historic homes. We walked along High Street and took pictures of some of our favorites. This one is for sale, but these old gypsies can't be tempted to put down roots.

Indiana #1

Monday we drove from the Twin Knobs campground in Kentucky to the historic Ohio River town of Rising Sun Indiana.

We took secondary roads across the Kentucky hills. It was absolutely beautiful, with huge plantation properties and thoroughbred horse estates and stud farms.

We are planted for a week at a casino RV resort - a first for us. It's quite nice and very cheap.

Kentucky #2

We spent last week at the Twin Knobs campground in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky.
The skies were gray, never saw the sun or blue sky, and it rained & rained & rained! We were ready to leave when our week reservation was up.
